He grew up playing with slum kids
Nobel prize winner Abhijeet Banerjee, in an interview, said that he grew up playing with the slum kids of Kolkata in his young age. This was the time when he actually had a taste of poverty himself and this inspired him to do his detailed research on poverty.
He spent 10 days in Tihar jail
Abhijeet Banerjee along with a bunch of other JNU students was arrested in 2016 for participating in a protest as a JNU student. He also said in an interview that he was beaten up and thrown into Tihar jail for participating in that protest.
